Tourist information

The previous Greek colony of Roses extends between the ocean and the hills, right on the Costa Brava. This city in the region of Girona features a wide range of beaches and bays among stony high cliffs, where travellers can practise a great number of sea sports in addition to exploring the close by Aiguamolls de l´Empordá and Cap de Creus Natural Parks. Meanwhile, the historic-artistic site of La Ciudadela is an example of a Renaissance defensive building on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

From Roses you can tour a decent part of the region of Girona and go to destinations as scenic as Cadaqués or Port de la Selva. Empuries maintains significant Greek leftovers while, away from the coast, at Figueres you must visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum, tribute to the master of surrealism. On the edge of a cliff next to the Mediterranean stands the Aiguablava Parador de Turismo, an outstanding four-star hotel where travellers can sit back in the course of their free time. The ancient city of Friends, declared a historic-artistic site, and Girona, with its walled city known as La Força Vella, are a couple of the several other opportunities provided by this Catalan province.

Things to do in Roses

Roses remains a secluded, comfortable resort, in spite of the high-quality sports facilities and immaculate beaches that line the monumental, sweeping Roses Gulf. The gulf is home to the Costa Brava’s biggest fishing fleet, established out of the port. Wind-surfing, deep sea fishing and diving excursions are especially favourite from Roses Harbour, particularly as several of the most picturesque beaches in the region are easily accessible just by boat. Nevertheless, it is, obviously, the beaches truly draw travellers to Roses. Gulf of Roses is inundated with beaches, ranging all the way around the the gulf to the south of the resort. To the north, the shoreline becomes much more rugged and natural, with several small beaches to pick from. These beaches are typically difficult to reach, and only those on foot or with access to a boat will be able to reach them. Roses benefits greatly from the marvelous surroundings of the city. Situated on the edge of two separate nature reserves, the much celebrated Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l’Emporda and the one-of-a-kind Creus Cape Headland reserve which is home to an extraordinary range of globally distinctive plant species, Roses is a perfect base for nature fans. Strolling, biking and horse riding activities are encouraged.

Beaches in Roses

Roses is very close to some the most eye-catching and least cramped beaches of the Costa Brava. Only down the street, the broad stretch of beach runs all the way towards historic Sant Martí de Empuries, which as well has its own enchanting beach. From here, a maritime walkway with sights of the Roman ruins of Empúries runs as far as the fishing village of L’Escala with its own seashore boardwalk, beaches and tempting seafood taverns.
